Harrison was tho next speaker and was entertaining the con vention when tho reporter returned to the office to fill the maw of tho copy fiend. It is estimated that about 500 peo plo are in attendenoe upon the con vention and probably 150 of those aro third party men, Clark men and men who are neither for Clark or Hogg. Tho Hogg budges were ab jut 350 strong and somo of these were from adjoining counties. It is, how over, a good demonstration and shows that the Hogg people aro sure enough, bent on carrying this county if they oan. DEATH OF MR. ROUSE. Inquest Arro3t of Aeoused Par ties Tho Kemalns. Mr. John J. Rouse, tho oattleman who was diugged and robbed laBt Fri day night, at tho Red Front saloon, aooording to general belief, died at 5 o'olock yesterday afternoon. His physioians did all that science could suggest in Buoh a case but the enor mous doso of narcotic, full 30 grains triumphed; fast as the antidotes neu tralized he reabsorbed and all the care and skill proved unavailing. The death bed was a very Bad scene. Those who witnessod it will long remember room No. 1 at the Mitchell House Tho weeping wifo, her boy and the little ones dinging to her skirts, the sufferer in tho throes of death, all to gethor it was a dismal, sorrowlul, hoartrending oloso of tho life of a husband and father. Justice Gallagher viewed tho re mains shortly after the viotim breathed his last. This morning tho body left over tho Mission Route, suitably os- oorted for burial at Lott. CRIMINAL PROCEEDINGS, Ira Rouso, son of dooeased, went before Justice Gallagher, last night and mado affidavit for warrant against Goorgo Walker, Lou Galla ghor, John Dowd, Bruoe Dowd, May Uowd and another party. Tho war rants wero placed in the hands of Sheriff Ford Tho parties wero much soattered. Those who took part in making the arrests wero Hlioriff Ford, Assistant City Marshal Clay, Deputy Sheriff Loo Jenkins, Police Officers Curry and Hardwiok, Mayor MoCullooh and Mr. M. B. Davis, of the press. Tho parties arrested were all landed iu jtil beforo midnight. THE RED FRONT. Tho abovo named saloon is looated on Washington stect, betweet Hirst and Second streets. Si Whitaker, partner of de ceased. THE OFFICERS. Marshal Alf Neill, Assistant Mar shal Clay, and their officers worked well in getting up ovidence Sheriff Ford, Depnty Shoriff Lee Jenkins and other officers wero prompt of aotion. All together it was a creditable j)b. It is to be hoped that if notaing olso results (horo will hereafter be no mora oases of drugged beer, robberies and murders in that quarter. TODAYS WORK ON TUE CASE. A search warrant was sworn out this morning bef -re Justice J. N. Gal lagher with the hope of finding the deceased man's watch and placed in the hands of Policeman W. 0 Clay, and, in company wiih Deputy Sheriff Lee Jenkins, Policeman Knott and a News reporter, a determined search was made but, of course, the watch was not found. John Dowd was taken from the calaboose, where he was confined and taken to the rescva'ion. He unlrck ed his safe and told the officers to search to their satisfaction. The watch was not found there and the room of Lou Gallagher was the next subject ed to a thorough search, but nothing was found there. May Dowd's room was next searched and although Police man CUy and Deputy Sheriff Lee Jenkins went through everything in the room the object of the investiga tion was not found, although numer ous pistols, wachesand pocket books were discovered. NOTES. Mayor McCulloch states that it is the intention to break up all such dives as the Red Front saljon if pos sible. Deputy Sheriff Lee Jenkins and Deputy Marshal W. C. Clay are en tilled to especial credit for today's work. It is geuerally thought that this last tragedy will set the al lerraen to think ing sufficiently to rid the reservation of the saloons. John Rouse "was 41 years of age, was deputy sheriff of Falls county un der Mr. Si Whitaker and afterwards constable of procinot No. 5.
