The installation of exhibits in
the various building.", at the
World's Fair is now actively n
progress. ;corfs of treigit ears
loadtd with exhibits are being run
into the grounds and switched to
the different buildings. Wagons
laden with packing caos are to bo
seen goir' in all directions. Soon
these busy scenes will be multiplied
many times over, fjr hundreds of
cars of exhibits will arrive where
now there are k: .rrs. The inaj )r
ity of exhibits which have arrived
thus fir are foreign.
Hajti's building at the World's
Fair, a very unique and artistic
Htructure, has been completed, and
was dediua'el on January 2, tho
anniversary of the independence of
Hayu. Frederick Douglass, ex
United State minister to tba.
country, del vered the dedicatory
oration and Director-General Davis
responded. llayti wil make an
elaborate exhibit.
Goupil it Company, of New
York and Paris, have been con
ceded the important privilege of
making an illustrated publication of
tho contents of the Wonnn's
Building. The costh task has
been undertaken without expend
j to the Exposition, upon the condi
tion tbat tne linn snail nave tne
exclusive sale of the publication.
This is distinct from the official
catalogue, which will not be illus
trated, and tho title of it is now
under consideration. The quality
of the entire publication, as to
paper, pictures and text, will bo of
the finest possible description,
making an edition de luxe, of equal
attractiveness and value as a
souvenir of woman's share in the
World's Fair.
Tho Board of Lady Managers,
soon after it? organization, care-
fnlly considered the most compre
hensive muthod of presenting a
satisfaotoiy showing of tho work of
women in hospital and trained
nurse service. Making tho early
discovery that but slight opportu
nity for such an exhibit would be
found in the Liberal Arts Depart
ment, owing to the limited space,
the Board eagerly sought tho
desired opening through other
channeK The plans fjr medical
service, promulgated by the Medi
cal Director of the Exposition,
contemplato the maintainauce of a
hospital in which the more ad
vanced modern theories will bo
demonstrated. A striking feature
of this will be anellective ambu
lance sorvice, each ambulance being
aecerapinied by a trained nurse
when called for tho removal of a
patient to the hoppital. Here the
Board of Ltdy Managers perceived
its opportunity, and at once began
the foundation of an elaborate
feoheme, which ultimate!) assumed
national proportions and attracted
wide attention from many vital y
interested. This was tho establish
ment and maintainauce of a series
of movable hospitals or rilief
stations, at various j oiuts on the
World's Fair grounds, by means
of which the safety and comfort of
the public would be greatly served.
Patients requiring immediate atten
tion can be taken into one of these
relief stations 3iid there receive
such prompt, expert care as will
often render unnecessary thoir
removal to the 'hospital. In addi
tion to the line opportunity thus
afforded for a practical exhibition
of wonnn's skill as a trained
nurBe which was tho original
incentive of the Lady Managers
this admirable plan also g-svu mag
nificent scope for ennprebensive
hoepital exhibits which had been
crowded out of tho Liberal Arts
Department. The ida of the Lady
Managers has received the most
cordial approval of the Chief of
Liberal Arts, who saw in it oppor
tunities! for exhibits not in h-s
power to bestow. Fearing, how
over, Irt-t this pervice great as it
ovidemh must be mignt be re
jected by the Directory in the
event of its entailing any expense

interests are represented in tho
united movement, the list of hospi-
tals including such names -as the
Be levue, the Mt. Sinai, the
Hahnemann, the Roosevelt, the
Now York Hospital all of New
York city and the great hospitals
of Pennsylvania aud Massachusetts.
It is particularly gratifying that aU
reboots of medicine are represented
aad that no one taken suddenly ill
need bo subjected to treatment of
which he disapproves. The Pnysi
oian and Trained Nurse organiza
tion cf Illinois have also united
with these leading hospitals, and
the Board of LaHy Managers in
presenting this admirable plan to
the Directory. The latter will, no
doubt, bo most happy to aocept the
great service, offered in so generous
3iid public spirited manner, by
which the Exposition and the public
will both be signally benefited.
The inter-continental railway
commission has had prepared a fac
simile in miniature of Central and
South America to show the surveys
of the proposed railroad intended to
unite the systems of North aud
South America. The work was
done by E. E. Court, of tho hydro
graphic office, and is a faithful
representation of the topography
of the countiies named. It is about
twenty five feet long, and will be
sent to the World's Fair as a part
of the government exhibits. In
addition to the lines -urveyed for
the railroad the map also shows the
routes of tho present and prospec
tive steamship lines from North to
South America, with tho names of
their terminal ports and interme
diate stopping points, if any.
Sonoma county, California, will
sniid a unique exhibit to the World's
Fair. It will be a representation
of the geysers, one of the great
natural curiohities of the state. The
model will be thirty-two feet long,
twenty-eight feet wide and eighteen
, feet high. One of tho great spout
ing caldrons of stbam will be rep
resented by real rock and iminita
tion in staff, while a background
will be painted to represent the
most picture quo of geysers arise.
Artificial lights in various colors
will ieprodm-j tho peculiar play of
color seen in the gorge. The sem
blance of the hot Bprings is to be
made by use of steam pipes. In
the foreground will ha placed a
Jingo allegorical figure of "The
Demon of the Geysers," modeled
by Rupert Schmid.
The sub committee of the execu
tive committee, ard the committee
on assignment of space in the
Woman's Building, recently ad
journed a laborious session. One
important result of their labors was
the final adoption of the rules and
regulations for the Woman's Build
ing. Another was the assignment
ot space to tho following associa
tiouh of women: Tho L&dios'
Catholic Benevolent Association,
the King's Daughter's, Mt. Vernon
