accept for fahing into the bell any

tions of funds to pay for the bell,

bank, Now York, and of copper
and tin, the metals that tho bell is
dependent upon to give it tono and
musical quality, will nill be wel
comed. Swords, bayonets and im

accident today marred tho oIoho of
tho great congress of women. A
tection of tho lloor, .'0x.-50 feet in

Washington hall in tho art institute,
suddenly gave way and fell to the
ground, a distance of twelve feet.
Seventytive panic-stricken women
fell in a mass of struggling human
ity and the cries of the hundreds
already assembled eoutiibuted to
the excitement that followed. After
scores of people had rushed to tho
rescuo and nearly four score of
women had been extricated it was
found that about e'ght persons had
been seriously injured, but nono of
them fatally. Tno cause of tho ac
cident apparently W2s the fact that,
weakened by the continual passing
of thotifacds, the suppor'.s of the
tloor failed. Warning of tho acoi
dent was given by a slight creaking.
There was no crash. Slowly the
platform sank until its timbers were
mingled with the shrieking women
on tho solid foundations twelve
feet lower.

The force of stone cutUrs on the j
government building have struck.
The strike is the result of singular 1
circumstances. Some tools belong-'
ing to one of the men were stolen. 1
He found them in a pawnshop and I
redeemed them for 2.50, which
amount the union ordered to be
pa'd by Contractor D. A. J. Sulli-1
van. This he refused to do and the
strike followed. 1
