Aftor considerable discussion, in which there was a lively passage at arms between Aldermen Poago aud Tibbs,tho account was recommitted to tho finance committee. Mr. Poage then jumped onto a bill of ':;. (." from tho Hell Water Company for lowering water pipes. Mr. Tibbs explained that tho grade of the strtet was lowered and that tho wator company then had to lower their pipe. Mr. Poago thought that was no reason why tho company should bo paid for lowering thoir own pipe. Tho city engineer said ho could find no evidence that tho water com pany had over put their pipe down 10 the proper grade, and that it was thoir own fault that they had to lower it He had refused to approve ho ru count. Mr. Symes thought tho lowering of the pipo had been rendered nee essan y the fault of a former city en j neer, aud thereforo the water ompa'iy should be remunerated for the extra expense. The city engineer said there was a leiorded gratre, aud thnt the pipe, a originally laid, W3S not properly lOAn to it. It recommended the acceptance of the addition to tho cential station building as comple ted, and the acceptance of the South Fifth street and North Ninth strict buildings, with tho scaling down of about -IT." for inferior work. Mr. Slaughter explained that there was some doubt as to whether certain things appeared in the specifications as furnished the con tractors. Tho report was recommitted for more dtiinito information. Mr. Symes called attention to the necessity of building a culvert over Barron's branch. on to Vermont avonuo. Referred the street committee. The proposition of W. II. Rofs to gravel certain Hlreots was laid over until a time when money shall be more plentiful. Tho matter of cleaning tho gut tors around the square was referred to the sanitary committee. On motion of Mr. Slaughter the vote upon tho account of the City architects was reconsidered and the matter laid over until tho matter of receiving the lire stations shall be disposed of. Tho mayor announced that he would, in view of a resolution heretoforo adopted, ascertain what it would cost to secure a system of standard weights and measures for uso by tho city. On motion of Mr. King, tho hour for meeting was changed from 7::!0 to 7 o'clock. Adjourned.
