mm 1 4 1797 Chas. Newboldof New Jersey, Patented a cast iron plow. This plow was cast with mould boards and point alto gether. This was not a success and was found too expensive. The farmer could not afford the cost of buying a new plow, as they would wear out quickly. The most practical plow offered after above invention was made by Richard B. Chenaworth, of Baltimore, Md., one of the first manufacturers of plows in the. United States, which was patented in 1813, the point, mould board, frog and landslide all cast in seperate pieces. Jetho Wood, of New York, who took" out patents in 1813 arid 1819, on improvements in cast iron plows has been given credit for important work in the introduction of improved plows, although the main feature of his patent of 1819 was not a practical invention. In 1855 James Oliver, of South Bend, Ind., patented the Oliver Chilled Plow. It has been of great good to the farmers, but as time goes on the master minds spring up and the great improvements in plows, as in other things, takes p!&b; In 1908, W. J. Oliver, the nephew of James Oliver, comes now with an improvement over the invention of his uncle, James Oliver, and patents the W. J. Oliver Chilled Plow, made of the same kind of iron, using the same process in - chilling, and adds new features, making it stronger and more durable. This plow is not an imitation, but is W. J.
