The output of the goM mines in
ths United States for the year 1901
was in the enormous sum of 13,.
00,000, which was 3,000,000, in
excess of the previous year itself a
record breaker. Our mines for the
same year produced about fi0,000,
(XX) ounces of silver, a greater por
tion of which was absorbed by lh
arts and sciences; much of it going
to India and China, where it is still
being coined as money. We pro
duced about dO percent of the cop
per of the world during last year,
our mines being situated mainly in
Michigan, Montana and Arizona.
Tlw yeir's production on our
