EXGOV CAMPBELL OF

For Bryan and Lewall Lab

Regular Correspondence of TimHERALfl
Washington Oct 6th 1803
That the rfgular democratic
ticket should be openly oppospd
by the democratic administra
tion is exasperating aud aggra
vation enough to the average
democrat but it is certainly
adding insult to injury when
a member of the republican
national committee advertises
by means of a personal inter
View in a local pappr that the
Government employes are ex >
pected to contribute S 0000 to
the McKinley campaign fund
Yet that is exactly what has
been done The republican na
tional Committee man who has
had the cheek to do this thing
is Mr M M Parker of the
District of Columbia who has
been in New York since the
campaign oppned but who has
just returned to Washington
for the avowed purpose of rais
ing money and he says he is
going to remain and devote his
whole attention to it He be
gan operations by having him
self interviewed and after
stating the urgent need for
more money lie said They
have called on us to raise
50000 We ought to do it
It i3 not a question of party1 it
is a question of preservation
Individuals Banks trust com
psinies and corporations should
so consider it TL 30 in the
Government service ought to
appreciate the situation and
gratuitously help to protect
themselves The national com

Fortunately for the government

my party In doing this I feel
that I am not making any
greater sacrifice than Muj Mc

something in the platform are

it That isnt reason enough for
it is not

reason enough for me to help
to elect McKinley who does not

call themselves democrats

Senator Blackburn who was
with Mr Bryan iu New York
stopped in Washington to get
a couple of days rest before
again taking the stump in Ken

high compliment I know he

experience and training but I
have been in one or the other
Houses of Congress for 22 years
continuously aud I regard Mr
Bryan as the biggest man I
ever saw Of the campaign
generally Mr Blackburn said
This is the peoples light and
