Barnas Scan, It. J). It is with pleasure that we announce the coming of Dr. Barnas Sears to Breaham. He will lecture here in the even ing, February 1st. at 7:30 o'clock at some public place, which will hereafter be aiuionnced, when the committee of ar rangements has definitely set tled the matter. It is seldom that our city has the promise of a lecture from so distinguished a gentleman and schohr. Smith was tried in the District Court yesterday upon an indiit nient charging him with the murder of one Stephenson at Chappell Hill, some twelve moi ths miico. May fortune smile upon them and their cher ished dreams of love and affec tion be fully realized. Personal. We were the re cipient yesterday morning of a pleasant call from Mrs. M. Montgomery, son and daughter, who desired to renew their sub scription to the .Banier and Independence Locals. Jan. 24. Capt. J. M. Williams was in stalled as Master of the Inde pendence Grango on the Gth inst. This is evidence cf their contiuued prosperity. The grangers ot this place have erected a handsome shop for general working purposes and are anxious to have a good blacksmith immediately to come and engage here. Mr. Bowman started the machinery of his new grist-mill Saturday. He will have the house completed by the end el the week. This is quite an im provement to our town. The post master and other citizens, are trying to establish a daily in lil to this place. It is very uuich nueded, and by all means should be secured. The Professor of German, of Baylor University, speaks thir teen or fourteen languages well and reads two others. The young men ot the Uni versity are still working to have adjournal published here. It is the very thing needed. Baylor University is to have an Oxford cap with a Lone Star badge. Hurrah for Baylor ! The sun is onco more out and we enjoy its appearance. Havn't seen my girl in two weeks on account of its non-appearance. Our young friend, Jno. Dallas had his horse to fall with him Sunday last, which seriously in jured his face, bruising his nose and, it is thought, broke a blood vessel. They represent that they are very poor, and that if they are transferred it will bo neees siry to furnish them two or three week's rations of beef and a military escort.
