As yet there has been no heavy fighting .between the hos tile forces. But what has been accomplished, has been invari ably in favor of the Russians. Whether it is to boa repetition of the late Franco-Prnssiau war, or whether the children of the prophet will be able to check the tide that seems to have set in against them, would be hard to determine. JPS The Mussulman is notwith out a record as a soldier. In former wars the Turks have ex hibited a fair Ehare of those qualities which go to make up the soldier bigotry and fanati cism, with unbounded pride in the traditions ot the prowess ot his aucestors. If this spirit is not yet extinct, the sick man, so called, may yet give the Russian bear his hands full? A good deal has been said about the chance of Russia's having trouble with her Polish subjects. All that is mere twad dle. Poland, or that part of it held by Russia, is too complete ly crushed, and too completely in the power of her conqueror, to give the successors ot Peter the Great any trouble. The Poles havo heard .too much of the rigors ot the climate of Si beria, and thev havo seen too many of their countrymen con signed to its merciless winds tor them to attempt to shake ofi the Rursian yoke. JMitors B vxneic The next morning after the pleasant interview with your F., in the flourishing city of Bren ham, we, that is my wife and self, took the South bound train, and in forty hours were safe and sound among loed and loving friend, in our own home iii this far awry land. Wc were detained some tour horn's on the way making connections at different points; so that our actual travelling time did not exceed thirty-six hours. The distance travelled is 535 mles, bntas the crow flies, it is only 350 miles from this "place to Hrcnham. Shakspearc sa33: There is a Divinity tliat sLapesronr eii'l., Iiougli, lievr tliera how w e may; and my experience demonstrates it trnth, for after living so many years in your beautiful and pro ductive country, 1 find myself tied down as it were, here in a very poor and barren region where uard work is required to force from reluctant soil a bare subsistence. When the war came on I was established in business in New Orleans, there, in my opinion, is the most de sirable place" to live in on this continent. Wheu the Yankees made it unwholesome for me to remain there, I took refuge in the piney woods of Mississippi, the laud of my birth and rais ing, where fate and an exten sive professional practice, which could not be easily closed, con fine me still. I must confess, that as lonij as I had lived in your State, I 'had not formed a due appreciation ot it until my late visit, when the great contrast it presented to the section in. which I havo spenfthe last dozen vears forced it npon-nie. Here tlie vision is bounded by immense pine for ests on every hand; the trees, to use a Miltonian phrase, being fit for the mast of some high 'admiral. One fresh from the prairies- almost breaks off his neck with constantly looking up at their immense height. The country is well watered and healthy. We have good society and all the commercial advan tages that could be desiied, be ing on the New Orleaus, Jack son and Great iNorthern Kail road eighty miles from the former city. The soil, original ly thin, has by long and slovenly, tillage been pretty" well exhaust ed, and paying crops can only be raised by the extensive use of fertilizers. Hence a great many persons wish to leave here in order to better their condi tion. I have had time to do but little else since my return home but reply to application for information about Texas Scores of honest hard working families, the bone and sinew of a county, could be induced to emigrate by imparting to them correct information of the ad vantages Texas affords, desirable localities, and the mode ot get ting there. I feel in conscience bound to do all I can for them in this respect; and if I could wind up my business here I should not bo long in putting myself again under the juris diction of the Lone Star State. I have made arrangements to visit Texas again in next July, when I hope-to find the editor. of the Banner in health and prosperity. 1. Applewhite. -Tlie Accumulation of (ioiil. WashingteD sp-cial to X. Y. Tribune. About 40,000,000 worth of gold,ha3 been coined in the mints of the United State3 since the first of July. Adding to .this the amount of silver coin age during the same period, the aggregate will be greater than the amount ot coinage ever done in the United States mints in the same length ot time since their organization. The onlj years during which the amount of work was nearly as great as were two or three immedi ately succeeding the discovery of gold in California and Aus tralia; aud even iu those years the number ot pieces actually made was much smaller than during the present, as the great er portion of the gold "then coined was made into double eagles, while during the present year an immense quantitj of silver coins has been turned out. The accumulation of gold in the United States during tho current year will probably be greater than during any pre vious year of its history. This country is not only retaining all the gold produced, between 40,000,000 and 50,000.000, but iu the first eight months of the present fiscal year our im portatioiw of gold and silver ex ceeded the exportations bv about 4,000,000. From present in dications it would not be sur prising if the amount of gold and silver accumulated inlhis country during the presentyear from production and import should amount to hill v 800,000, 000, or more than tlie amount sent out of the country during the 3 ear 1SC2, as a result ot tho suspension of specie payments.
