Rucker, who lives three miles north of town, informs the Ban ner that for some time- the has been missing his chickens. A day or two ago he medicated some eggs, and placed them un der the tree where the chick ens roosted. The next morn ing tlie eggs were missing. A number of buzzards appeared in the woods a short distance from his house, and an inspec tion of the locality was made. Two dead grey foxes the size of prairie cayotcs were found. The medicated eggs had "cook ed the foxes' geese.'1' Thirteen Killed. By the peep o' day oriMonday morn ing, the city marshal appeared upon the streets richly, decked out tn'war paint and feathers. He was armed with an elegant gold mounted cartridge shoot ing rifle which carries- a ball nearly as large as a black-eyed pea. The marshal is a " dead shot" and thinks or organizing aTifle club. It is ru mored that a club has or is to be organized in this city. Just who are the head centers' has not been definitclv determined. Mayor's Court. On Tues day morning the city marshal was out two hours before day building a fire under the boil ers that were to furnish the steam for running the police court. The grist was the heav iest of the season. The mar shal was in fine working order and soon had up steam so high that he had to throw a hundred pound nigger boy on the safety valve lever to keep from - blow ing off steam. An examination of the steam gauge showed 220 pounds. The marshal turned t,hc throttle when Jane Martin, an off-colored lady waltzed out on the platform. She was charged with shooting shoot ing off her "mouth" at another lady also colored. Jane was assessed $ I and trimmings. She paid. Mary Brewer, a negrcss was charged with fighting, but as the complainant failed to ap- pear she was discharged and the costs were assessed against the complainant, to be collected whenever she is found. Charles McGuire, disturbing the peace on Saturdaynightr discharged. Harry Lee, disturbing the peace fined $2 50 and trimmings, which he paid. Sam. Wilkins, using profane language fined $1 and trimmings which he paid. The city treasury was enriched some 12 and the pocket of the "city marshal was also " heftier. " f ,, County Criminal Court. The. cases of State vs George Daniels and Bill Payne were, on motion of the county attorney, stricken from the docket. On Tues day morning five or six young gentleman who stand high in fashionable circles, not only might haveheen, but were ac tually seen on the public streets with their eyes bunge'd up and illustrated in colors black and blue. It, appears that after the adjournment of tlie Temper ance society two or more fist fights ensued on tlie streets. It was a regular Donnybroek fair or Lanigan's ball fight. It is but Just to the Temperance so ciety and the participants in the bill or brawl to say that " bug juice" had nothing to do with the trouble. . Only Wanted One. A man came to town the other day to buy a coffin. He went to one of our leading undertak ers and selecting a coffin asked the price The undertaker re plied ".fifteen dollars." The coffin buyer objected to the price when the undertaker said if he would take -two of them he would Jet.him have them at twelve, dollars 'and a half each. This was a stunner, but the. buyer recovering his presence of mind asked: "What do I want with two coffins?" Blurglary. On Monday night sometime between twelve o'clock and Tuesday morning, Boycr's saloon on the east side of the square, was entered from the alley and seven dollars tak en out of the " missionary box" and " toted off. " A few day's ago Frank's restaurant was rob bed of a turkey and some pro visions. On Saturday night the restaurant w as again visited but on this occasion the thieves found nothing that they could carry away to advantage. Justice's Court.
