A large cotton crop will be
planted this year in Coryell county.

ance. Marlin is to have an artesian
well. The contract has been let for
a depth of 2000 feet or until a
sufficient flow is reached.
The Cumberland Presbyterians
of Post Oak community, Navarro
county, have erected a nice church.

. A much larger crop of oats has
been sown this spring in Rockwall
county than usual. The corn and
cotton crops will also be large.
John L. Sullivan telegraphed
his indorsement of the action of the
citizens to New Orleans from San
Antonio and sent $250 for a Hen
nessey monument. ,
Mrs. DeUa Close, a soiled dove,
of Dallas, was killed in Dallas Mon
day night. She was shot m the
head four times by a hors trader
named George Martin.
Mrs. Eosana Matthews and two
boys were thrown from a wagon at
Big Springs Monday and Mrs.
Matthews was instantly killed and
the two boys badly bruised.
It is generally understood that
work on the Waco, Lampasas and
Lhino railroad will be discontinued
for the next thirty days. The cause
of discontinuance is unknown.
Alberisto Taylor, the supposed
leader of the Brownsville train rob
bers, was captured at his home near
Bef ugio Sunday. He is a bad Mexi
can and iB wanted in Galiad county
for horse stealing.

himself to the authorities at Paris

charge of his revolver.
The contract has been let for
the building of a splendid new
church by the Methodist brethren
of West McLennan countv. The
house will cost in the neighborhood
of fifteen hundred dollars when com
pleted. Two white boys, Willie Morz-
low and Willie Pressler and a color
ed boy, Sonny Beady, were arrested
at Galveston Monday for carrying
on a system of burglary that has
baffled the police for .eoine time.
The boys are about 10.

Mrs. H. Goulding, of San An
tonio, has filed suit against the
Crosstown railway company for
88,330 for damages sustained by her
in the accident when the street car
fell off the Grand Avenue bridge into
San Antonio river on-March 2nd, it
being the same accident in which
Mrs. Geary well known here, was in.
She will probably institute suit also.

pects for an overflow are not cheer
ful. The seizure of the' British steamer
Countess of Carnovan by the Por
tuguese was discussed in the British
parliament recently. More definite
information is anxiously awaited.

mining enterprise, whether large or

tories or mines, now in operation,
or the erection of large buildings,

information of character, and every
body in the South should take an
interest in seeing that that journal
receives the earliest notices that can
possibly be given of such new enter
prises, or of the enlargement of
those now in operation.

been for some years. The farmers
are in good spirits and are buying
more implements for working their
land than they have done for a long
