By J. F. Babbit, a drummer for a
New Orleans house, he expects to
prove that AJlee fired the first shot,
and after Bowen fell fired again and
again into the prostrate body.
An assault with intent to kill
(was committed in the Richland
creet bottom, about fifteen miles
nortbe?st of oro, Jim Thomp
son, sixteen years oiu, met xom
Hiues, fifteen years old. They had
some words, when Thompson picked
up a stick and hit Hines two severe
licks, one on the arm, which is suffi
cient to cause him to carry it it in a
sling. Hines then out with his
pocket knife and cut Thompson
across tho breast and once under
the arm. The latter cut is so severe
as to prevent Thompson from being
arrested and moved to town. Deputy
Sheriff J. A. Tucker went out Mon
day night, and after being out all
night arrested Hines and brought
him into town this morning. Owing
to his being so young, he has not
ocked up, but is being gur-rded un
til Justice of the Peace Hodge re
turns from Brandon, when the
amount of the bond will be known
and given, as ho has friends who
will go on it.
Saturday evening a well dressed
lady and gentleman of Fort "Worth
drove out into tho country and
buried a white baby, which it is said
was not over a day old when buried.
Officers have tho baby and it is said
the parents are said to be unmarried
and are away up in the world.
Chillicothe is raising a subscrip
tion to build a Methodist church.

The board of managers of the
Agricultural and Mechanical col
lege at a meeting held last week at
Bryan failed to re elect three of the

Mobile, Ala., and the evidence on
which she was convicted was all cir
cumstantial, some of the best wit
nesses now repudiating their testi
mony while it is said that the judge
who delivered the charge was half
crazy. A book has been written on
the celebrated trial by a well known
English lawyer, Alexander McDou
gall, who is chairman of a commit
tee trying to secure her pardon.
He shows good grounds for a par
don, and every American who has
read the history of the case, hopes
for her early pardon.
At New Orleans in the criminal
court Monday Judge Marr refused a
new trial to Bernard Glandi, con
victed of bribing a juror in the
Hennessy murder case. The consel
for Glandi filed a bill of exception
to the ruling and made a motion in
arrest of judgment. The court took
tho motion under advisement.
