Foard county has four leagues of unsold school land. Continued drouth has prevent ed thus far the sowing of wheat. The school at Eunge, Karnes county, has on its roll 127 pupils. Work on a school-house at Ladonia is especaed to begin at an early date. The'Baptist brethren will com mence a series of meetings soon at Groesbeck. Several hundred bales of cotton have been raised this year in Con cho county. It is estimated that G000 acres of wheat is being sown in Arm strong county. Drilling, at a depth of 1700 feet in the well at Abilene, is now through sandstone. In Foard county on Friday, the 30th ult., there was a norther ac companied with some rain. Stock in San Saba county is re ported to be in good condition, not withstanding the dry weather. Work on the Baptist college at Abilene is progressing satisfac torily ; the roof was completed last week. Tho tirtesian well at Cleburne has reached a depth of COO feet, So far no difficulties in drilling have occurred. The King bridge company has been sued at Austin for faulty con struction of the bridge over the Colorado. Mrs. W. H. Tobin, of Austin, was elected president of the Ladies' Texas board of managers of the World's fair.
