Morehead has let the contract for a handsome two-story residence, to be erected on Church street next to Mr. J. P. Magruder's residence. Mr. L. H. Wilkinson has let the contract for a two-story residence to be built next to the Presbyterian church. Work has already beguu. Mr. B. H. Morehead has pur chased of the Misses Hughes the lot facing the Female College, and will soon build there. A Vicious Negro. • Last week a negro named Caleb Jenkins shot another negro named Will Murphy with a shotgun, but the wounds were not dangerous. Jenkins escaped. Tuesday night he retuned and shot his wife and mother-in-law., The shot were small and the wounds are not very dangerous. He again escaped, and up to this time has not been captur ed.
