Pul nan con'i ty, Mo., has a citizen that tlumn that distinction. L. P. Davis, a reSdent oi this city, owns Mount Zion Bnpl-Vit church, which stands a few m il ‘a rorlh west of Kirksville, over in Putnam county. Sentiment i» t' pretty strung cord in the warp and woof of fife. and sentiment, it is said, caused Mr. Davis to buy Mount Zion chuscn. In 1885 the church was built, a half mile from the, Davis home, and Mr, Davis became one of the targe contribu tors to its support, although lie was not a member. His wife’s father was nn< of the deacons and at one time gave $500 to help the church. The church flourished for many years and had a large congregation, but as time passed the members died or moved away, so that within the last few years ths ranks were thinned to a dozen. It was thought wise to sell the church, since it could not be supported by the few remaining. Accordingly the building was advertised for sals. Then it wrs that the cord of sentiment yanked at Mr. Davis’ heart. He did not want to see the building torn down or removed an<l he bought it, grounds and all. The building needed repairs and these were made. A new roof replaced the old one. Nusbaum, Batesville, Indiana, I writes :“Last year I suffered for three । months with a summer cold so distress | ing that it interfered with my business. I had many of the symptoms of hay I fever, and a doctor’s prescription did ' not reach my case, and I took several medicines which seemed only to aggra i vate it. Fortunately I insisted upon Shaving Foley g Honey and Tar. It quickly cured me. My wife has since used Foley's Honey and Tar with the same success.” —Bexar Drug Co. SAN ANTONIO TEXAS. SUNDAY. AUGUST 29. 1909. Thirty-Cent Fee for Tying Knot Scottsburg. Ind., Aug. 28.—Brides are now worth 30 cents. This fact was demonstrated Wednesday evening when Dr. W. O. Goodloe, pastor of the First Presbyterian church, married a cduple who are said to belong in Greenwood. It was getting late in the evening when two couples came hurrriedly up to the minister's front gate and asked if he was the preacher. The man of the first couple was spokesman and he volunteer ed the information that the second couple would like to get ‘‘hitched” in time to catch the 6 o’clock car for the north. Dr. Goodloe. with his usual cour tesy. immediately ‘‘got busy” and com pleted the job in a few seconds. After the ceremony the groom asked what the charge was. When the doctor gave him the usual explanation about there being no fixed charge the groom fished far down into the innermost re cesses of his pocket and when his hand emerged it contained a five-cent piece and a silver quarter, which he handed to the minister. With only the merest smile on his countenance. Dr. Goodloe turned to the blushing bride and hand ing her the money, said: ‘‘Let this be your first wedding present.” The bride was 18 years old and had been married four years before. The groom was somewhat older. HerbinE QUICKLY CURES ! BILIOUSNESS, CONSTIPATION DYSPEPSIA, MALARIA, CHILLS ; AND FEVER AND ALL LIVER COMPLAINTS. Aug. 28.—Not a single pas senger’s life was lost upon the rail wavs of the unite.! kingdom through an accident to a train in 1908. This is perhaps the most interesting feature of a report issued by the board of trade on the subject of railway accidents for that year. I There has been only one previous year, 1901. in which a similar clean sheet has been shown, there having been an annual average of 21 passeu gers killed during the last decade. The number of passengers injured during 1908 is also much below the average— namely: 283 instead of 026. The" report shows that one passenger has been killed in proportion to 12,- 500.000 journeys and one passenger in jured in proportion to 570,049 journey*. Deafness Cannot Be Cured by local applications, as they cannot reacn the diseased portion of the ear. There is only one way io cure deafness, and that is by constitutional remedies. I Deafness is caused by an inflamed con dition of the mucous lining of the Eusta chian Tube. When this tube is inflamed . you have a rumbling sound or imperfect hearing, and when it is entirely closed. । Deafness is the result, and unless the in flammation can be taken out and this tube restored to Its normal condition, hearing will be destroyed forever: nine eases out of ten are caused by Catarrh, which is nothing but an inflamed condi- • tion of the mucous surfaces We will give One Hundred Dollars for any case of Deafness (caused by catarrh) that cannot be cured by Hall's Catarrh Cure.
