DAUGHTER OF KRUPP VISITS IN CHICAGO Purely on Pleasure Bent, But Take Trip to United States Steel Plant at Gary. Auoclated Pnu Chicago, Dec. B.—With their pres cnee in Chicago known only to a few intimate friends. Baron Thilo Von Wil mowski and the baroness, who is a daughter of Alfred Krupp, late gun maker of Essen. Germany, have been in Chicago since December I. The Baroness Von Wilmowski was Fraulieh Barbara von Krupp. She and her sister. Bertha Krupp, who is now married to Herr Gustave Von Bohlen und Halbach, were known as the "two richest women in the world." While friends of the German visitors assert that the trip to this country is purely on pleasure, a visit to the I'nited States steel works at Gary, planned for today, aroused a belief that the Baron Von W'iltnowski and his wife, who still takes an active part in the affairs of the great cannon factory, are especially interested in extending their knowledge of the great American plants. It was argued to the court that it would be rather crude justice to col lect from the husband fees for a suit with whose bringing he had no connec tion and in which he appeared as de fendant. On the other hand the claim was set up that a husband is responsible for his wife’s debts, and a reconcilia tion having been effected, he should pay the fee. ’l’he case is being tried before a jury, ft will be concluded this afternoon. M'avliiugtou, Dee. X.— Kegardless of the recent uhl-age pension legislation, providing a pension of not less than $l2 per mouth for practically all of the old soldiers of the country, congress is still being importuned for increases to al most as great an extent as before the general legislation was enacted. Of the three or four thousand private bills al ready presented in the house a large majority are for private pensions and the indications are that many more will be introduced early in the session. At its first meeting yesterday the house committee tackled the large pile of such measures before it. and favora ble reports were ordered on about 450 of them. These reports pertain to eases whieh had been investigated by th» committees examined since the last ses sion. * I 1 I 5
