OIL FIELDS
Machinery Arrives at Austin
for Sinking of Test Wells In
the Sprinkle Fields. .
Special Dispatch.
Austin, Tex., May 4. —The Sprinkle
oild fields, discovered last year near
here, are to be thoroughly exploited,
and machinery for sinking test wells
arrived here yesterday. It is being put
in place for operation today. Beau
mont capitalists are said to be inter
ested.
John W. Hornsby and Ed Eosengren,
of this city, secured options on about
1000 acres of land around Sprinkle
last fall when oil was struck in boring
a well. The oil is of a fine quality and
its finding created a sensation here at
that time. It has long been known that
valuable deposits existed in the country
around Sprinkle and the old Sun Oil
company attempted to exploit the wells
years ago. The machinery which ar
rived here yesterday was shipped from
the Beaumont fields.

RUMBLE OF IKE DEAD
WAGON REVIVES HIM
Rome, Ga., May 4.—Although pro
nounced dead, the rumbling of the
wheels of a dead wagon brought Eu
gene Manor back to life yesterday. Ma
nor, in an attempt to commit FUiiude,
took carbolic acid. He immediately
went into a state of coma and was
thought dead, but just as the under
taker’s wagon stopped in front of his
house he came to. Ho said the noise
made by the wagon revived him. It is
not thought that he can live.
FOLLOWED HIM UNTIL
HE FOUND POLICEMAN
“If youse goin’ to git a cop, you had
bettar git him quick, ’cause I'se goin’
to git on dis street car right now.’’
These were the parting words of Wes
ley Nixon, a negro, to Gus McCane, an
other of his race, yester.’ ;ernoon as
he jumped on a street . -t Houston
street. McCane followe. and a little
later succeeded in getting a policeman
and Nixon was taken into custody. Mc-
Cane claimed that Nixon had stolen two
of his razors.
Nixon appeared before Judge Buckley
in the police court charged with ma
licious mischief. McCane, who is a
barber, was the prosecuting witness. He
told about Nixon coming into his shop
in the afternoon, and while he was
absent for a couple of minutes, two ra
zors were taken from a drawer. He
discovered the fact as Nixon was leav
ing. He followed him.
“He wouldn’t stand a search,” said
McCane, “but later showed me a razor.
It wns mine, and I had him arrested.”
Nixon to the last protested his inno
cence in court. He claimed the two ra
zors belonged to him and that he pawn
ed the one found in the pawn shop sev
eral months ago.
“Why,” testified Detective McGar
ity, “the ink wasn’t dry on the pawn
ticket when I located the razor. The
ticket showed it had been pawned on
May 2, 1910?’
“I’ll fine you $25,” said Judge Buck
ley, ending the case.

negro, working with the Caddell road
gang, was seriously injured yesterday
by the untimely explosion of a powder

was thought that the other fuse had
burned out. After waiting a while
Edmon began digging about the hole,
when the fuse gave a spurt and the ex
plosion occurred. The man was blown
about ten feet in the air. One of his
eyes was blown out, while the other is
in a precarious condition. In the fall
his right arm was broken at the wrist.

SEVEN VISITS TO SURKEY
Some time during Monday night
thieves visited the home of Mr. and Mrs.
George Surkey, 315 Third street, and
helped themselves to some choice pot
plants on the front gallery. This is
about the seventh visit of the thieves
to the Surkey home for plants and Mrs.
Surkey said today she is now at work
preparing a warm reception for the vis
itors when they call again. Mrs. Sur
key says that, as a matter of fact, the
thieves show very good taste in their
selection, as they take only the best of
the plants, and she is beginning to
think she is exercising poor judgment
in buying such valuable home decora
tions for others to walk away with.
Last Saturday night the mauraders vis
ited the Surkey home and at that time
