QUIET GRACE.
Mr. Blobbs dined the other evening
with some friends. When the
were seated the host bent his head and
began speaking in a subdued tone.
“Eh, what’s that?” demanded
Blobbs, who sat beside him, and who is
rather deaf.
The host smiled patiently and began
again in a louder voice.
“Speak a little louder; T don’t catch
what you say,” Blobbs persisted.
A low ripple of laughter went round
the table. The host, his face crimson
with embarrassment, raised his voice
still higher. Thp poor old man did his
best to hear, but failed.
“What did you sayf” he demanded,
ihasciblv.
The host cast him an angry glance.
“Dang it. T’m saving grace!” he
veiled.—Tit-Bits.
A GRASSHOPPER CURE.
Blake Hoggatt, the most tobacco
chewing negro in these parts, says he
has found a new way to exterminate
grasshoppers. Blake says to catch a
couple of the hoopers and pinch them
on the legs until the muscles become
sore. Then turn them loose. They will
hop so queerly that all the grass
hoppers will die laughing. The hard
part. Blake says, is to catch the two
original grasshoppers the others
are all dead and kill them.—Leesville
(Colo.) Light.

MISTAKES
Are sometimes costly. Don’t make the
mistake of paying for ice that is not
pure and solid. It is a waste of money.
You are guarded against this when we
supply you with ice. You will also find
our service entirely satisfactory.

GETTING BACK AT PAPA.
The Rev. Dr. Fourthly, mildly reprov
ing his youngest daughter:
‘ ‘ Florence, do you think it is appro
priate to wear that gaudy hat to
church? It looks as if you went there
herely to be seen.”
Miss Florence Fourthly, aged 12, de
murely responding:
‘‘Well, papa, all you go to church for
is to be heard, isn’t it!”—Chicago
Tribune.
