Lumpkin s left last night for Bosque county where 1 he will make a number of speeches this week in the- interest of Jack Beali's candidacy for congress. John eon of the steamship Navahoe, which ha·- arrived here from Boston, reported that on March 22. between Hatteras and Bod ye island, the Navahoe passed the st'-amer Major Barrett on fire. The Navahoe steamed around her, but saw no sign of life. Two empty boats were adrift in the vicinity, and it is thought that the crew was rescued. The sea was smooth. The Major Bar rett was an oil steamer, home port Philadelphia, bound for New York from Sabine Pase. Four skeleton· I7oe»rth*d. Taylor. Te*.. March 24.—While la borers were making some excavations at l^anesport, a village near here, for the purpose of erecting a fuel oil tank, four skeletons were found about four feet below the surface. They had ap parently been thrown in hurriedly, and were covered uj> with their faces downward These men are supposed to have been killed by Indians In 1851 or 1852. as there was a battle with the Indians about that time near Lanesport. Attempt· rl Murder sod Sulcld· Pitsburg, March 24.—Mrs. Birdie Ashlnskl. aged 28 years, wife of Joseph Ashinski, of Coraopolie, fired two shots from a revolver at her husband Sun day but missed him. Turning the weapon upon herself she put a bullet through her heart, dying instantly. The husband attempted to whip a young son of his wife's by a former marriage. March 23.—A fatal shooting occurred at Corydon, in which Green Pritchett was killed and John Below, a farmer, fatally wounded. Bad blood existed 'between the two men over business.
