Bakkow, Agt. A Creditable Performance. A large audience numbering not lese than four hundred people at tended the performance of the Olympia Opera Company at the park auditorium last night. The bill for the evening was "El Cap itan," one of the funniest operas that has ever been written. It is an exceptionally strong hill and af forded a splendid field for the full est exercise of the abilities of that versatile comedian, Edward Eagle ton. In the title roll last night Mr. ifiagletdn was ahly supported by Mise Lottie Kendall, Miss Therese Marker, Mr. Carrick Major, Harry Lightwood, E. L. Weston and a cho rus of well trained voices. In point of stature Mr. Eagleton is ad mirably adapted to the role of El Capitan and he portrayed this char acter in a most admirable manner. He has a fine basso voice and his sieging was exceptionally good. Mr. Lightwood, that clever little comedian who made himself so pop ular here iast winter, won new favors in his splendid work in the comedy roles. As Estreldaaz Miss Lottie Kendall made a happy hit, with the audience, and Miss The-' rese Harker was fascinating in the j role of Princess Marganza. The fe male portion of the Olympians was greatly strengthened by Miss Lu- ! elle Deva! who has an unusually! clear contralto voice. Miss I)eval j is a graduate of the Cincinnati Col- j lege of Music and this is her first j season as an operatic singer. As aj tenor singer E. L. Weston has few j superiors and his work last night ; was of a highly meritorious charac- j ter. As an interpolation in the sec ond act he sang "In the Shadow of | the Alamo" and received a hearty ι encore. This beautiful song was I written about two years a κ ο by Mr. i W. H. Machette, the company's pianist. The performance through out was a most creditable one and the Olympians won many new friends among the theater lovers of W&xahachie. Licensed to Wed.
