Dr. W. R. Harper, president ot tbe University of Chicago, and the man who say· the story of Cain and Abel is a myth, was a guest of Waxahac hie yesterday. Accompaning Dr. Harper was Maj. Henry A. Rusk, who for many years was financial agent of the university. John D. Rockefeller has given to this insti tution $20,000,(100 which was invest ed in buildings and interest bearing securities. Maj. Rusk resigned as financial agent last fall and is ac- i companying Dr. Harper on this trip simply for recreation. These gentle men left last evening for Waco where Dr. Harper took part today in the dedicatory exercise» of the | Carroll buildings at Baylor I'niver- j sity. It is doubtful if Waxahachie ever before entertained so distinguished : an educator as Dr. Harper. He ι ranks foremost in his profession and j belongs to that class known as the higher critics. He is the presiding! genious over the most liberally en- | do wed institution of learning in the | world. Dr. Harper's sermon delivered! from ttie pulpit of th»· Methodist I church yesterday morning was heard by one of the largest audiences j ever assembled in that sacred edifice. ; Dr Harper is a very pleasant speak-1 er and his sermon was a most able ; one. In the afternoon he lectured in the chapel at Trinity I'niversity, his ι principal theme being a colley edu-1 cation for young men. It was mainly through the instru- j mentality of I)r. L. C. Kirke, presi dent of the university, that Dr. Har per *s« inrtnood to stop over a day | in Waxahachie. Save tne L>oved Ones! Mrs. Mary A. Vliet, Newcastle, Colo,, writes: "I believe Mallard's ! Horeheund Syrup i* superior to: any other cou^h medicine, and will do all that is claimed for it, and i t i m so pleasant to take. My little girl i wants to take it when she ha« no need for it."
