TRIIM'KT BROZIER IS BAPTIZED Immersed in a Bath Tub in (he County Jail by Rev. G W. Hill. Broiler Smith, the negro who is to be hanged here tomorrow for the murder of his wife, says he has made hi· peace with the Lord and ia now ready for the execution to take place. Yesterday afternoon at 2 o'clock he submitted to the or dinance of baptism, the services being held in the colored department! of ttie county jail. A bath tub waa filled with water and in this the con demned man wis immersed by Rev..1 O. W. Hill, pastor of St. Mary's Baptist church. The services were short, consisting of one v«»rse of a hymn and a prayer bv Sam Borders. I When asked by Rev, Hill if he had made complete preparation for death, the prisoner replied that he had. He was then requested by the preacher to get in the water, and ! with the usual ceremonies the or dinance oi baptism was administer ed. ! Among those who witnessed the service was the condemned man's mother. She seemed to be very much affected and wept freely while the services were beiug held. The condemned man claims to have made a profession of faith Monday morning. This statement we* made by him Tuesday after noon to Rev. O. W. Hill, pastor of the Colored Kaptist church, who had railed to hold a religi>as ser vice. R»»v. Hlil asked hfni if he felt that it was all right with his soul, and he answered th.»t it was. Daring a quarrel between a nam ber of boys at Ennis Sunday nigt I one of the number, Rov Crayton, a lad about 12 years old. received a blow on the head which broke the skull. Monday tilirht the boy died from the effects of the wound, Tuesday Ray ford Patterson, a boy about 14jeara old, was arrested on a charge of murder, it being alleged that he struck the blow which re sulted in the death of the Crayton boy. That night young Patterson was brought to Waxahachie and lodged in the county jail. Yester day afternoon tie was taken to En nis by Sheriff Minnick to have a preliminary hearing before Justice of the Peace H. R. Stovall When the ex imination of witnesses was concluded the boy's bond was fixed at which he readily gave and was released. Chambless Case Reversed. lit tiio court of criminal appeals at Dallas yesterday the case of John Chambless, appealed from this coun ty, was reversed and remanded. Chambless was convicted in the c«nr.ty court Dscenib* r ΐί)ίίι ou it charge of aggravated assault. The jury imposed a penalty of two years in the county jail and the payment of a fine of flUOU.
