The antl-trnat proceeding· of the atate against the Ennia merchant· came to an abrupt termination late yeaterday afterncon when a motion by Attorney General Bell to have the suite diarniased was auatained by the court. Only two or three witnesses were put on the stand yesterday, and the evidence adduced was not of suf ficient weight to warrant a further prosecution of the suits. The grocers 0f Knnis and this city | are jubilant over the result The jury in the case of Mrs. Beu iah Cassidy against J. J. Faulkner and his sureties returned a verdict yesterday afternoon, awarding the plaintif! a judgment in the sum of ΙΙόΟΟ. The total amount sued for was 12500, or ίόΟΟ eac.i on five sepa rate and distinct counts. The judg ment awarded the plaintiff was for the fall amount on three of the counts. The plaintiff was repre sented by Kembie é Fears and the the defendants by Templeton & Harding. The court has been taking a rest today, the jury having been dis-j charged yesterday afternoon until 9 o'clock tomorrow morning. Very little more civil business j will be transacted this Week. Next Monday the criminal docket will he taken up.
