The value of a bank in a town is seldom appreciated as it should be by the populace. Besides serving as a repository for the surplus funds of the business men. It also fills its purpose as a guardian of their in terests. and Waxahachle is particu larly fortunate in having a bank with a reputation second to none in this section for stability. We refer to the Citizens National Bank which is the oldest established financial institu tion in the town and one of the old est in the state. A general banking business is transacted, comprising deposit accounts, collections upon all points, the issuanc eof letters of I credit and travelers' checks as good as cash in all the principal money centers of the globe. At organization its capital slock was $CC,o6o. Its first officers were Capt. M. T. Patrick, president: a position which he still oc cupies; J. Farley, vice pres ident: N. A. McMillian cashier, and these gentlemen with \V. D. Sims and Dr. A. G. Connor constituted the directorate. In February 1SS4 the capital was increased to $75,00»"· and in January 1^90 to $11)0.000. The last statement published in March of this year showed the capital and sur plus to be $150,000 with undivided profits of $S,3x7, and deposits of $42S.257. The present officers of the First National are: M. T. Pat rick, president; J. VV. Singleton, vice president; Owe Goodwin, cashier; and these with Mr. R. K. Erwin and Dr. D. O. Thompson, constitute the directorate. Prospective customers will find this bank liberal, accommo dating cr.d courteous and ever ready to extend every favor consistent with safe banking. The Waxahachie National Bank. - mated on the southwest corner of the square, is the youngest national liank in he city, but is numbered among the strongest financial insti tutions of the county. It has the largest surplus of any bank in the city or county. It was organized in lS9o with a capital stock of one hundred thousand dollars and with he following officers and directors: Μ Β Templeton, president; A. Trip let. Sr . vice president; H. W.
