Mr. Reubell formerly lived near Waxahachie. but moved to San Angelo about two years ago and engaged in the news paper business, ills wife died at Whitewright last Friday of heart fa'lure and was buried there Satur day. Mr. Reubell's friends here sin cerely regret to hear of his sad mis fortune. Florida Masonic Temple. Jacksonville, Fla.. Jan. 22.—With I impressive ceremonies by the Flori da grand lodge of Masons, the cor- '■ nerstone of the magnificent Masonic ; temple to be erected in this city was | laid today. The pecond meeting of the Shakespeare club for the year 1908 was held in the club rooms at the Sims Library Tuesday afternoon with thç president, Mrs. J. Lea Gammon, in the chair and Miss lia ble Smith, the new recording secre tary, presiding over the minutes. At the meeting two weeks ago Miss Smith was unanimously elected to fill out the unexpired term of Mrs. Clyde Winn, who will be out of town for the rest of the winter. It was the pleasure of the club to have with it on this occasion Miss Edna Cunningham, the gifted young singer, on whom the club has had the pleasure of bestowing a musical scholarship in Trinity University. A lengthy business meeting was had. some of the chief transactions I being as follows: I A motion by Mrs. Peters, ai in ! keeping with the ftiovements of oth | er federate.d clubs, to hold the an j nual election qf officers at the first j meeting in March of each year, in j stead of near the end of the term as ! heretofore. Leigh very graciously ; dropped a kind word for the humane movement now underfoot. This hu mane movement department is to receive further consideration at fu j ture meetings, it is said. It is hoped ; also, that tlve public schools will help a long this line. Five new members were gladly j received. Mrs. Geo. T. Wilson, who, I because of her acceptance of a posi 1 tion in the public schools, sent in . her resignation as teacher for the ' next term, which was very regret ; fully accepted. Mrs. J. E. Leigh was unanimously elected to fill her ι place for teacher for "As You Like i It." Mrs. Cleveland, Mrs. F. Brady, Ws. Peters and Miss Smith gave In ' teresting papers and readings. Mrs. Watson being out of town, I lier appointee. Mrs. J. S. Herring. heard the lesson in an interesting i manner, the lesson being Act 5 of Julius C'aesar, and the last lesson of that play. A rising vote of thanks was given Mrs. Watson for her untiring efforts and her faithfulness and her great interestedness as teacher for the past term. The story telling for the children will be resumed at an early date, four ladies of the club who will be I appointed later, to have charge of ! this work. A Pleasant Affair. John V. A pleasant meeting of the Tues day Afternoon Sewing Circle wank held at the accustomed time, with Mrs. Cole Bailey as the charming hostess, at her cottage home on Mar vin avenue. The custom:· ry past times were indulged in, and at the close of the afternoon, jx delightful course of reWeshments, as follows, was served: Sandwiches, pickles, olives, fruit gelatine and cake. Eskridge, who is serving liis first term as city attorney, announ ces as a candidate for re-election. Mr. Eskridge is one of Waxahachie's most popular young' lawyers. He is a graduate from the department of law in the University of Texas, and has been quite successful in the practice of his chosen profession. Ar legal adviser to the city council and as prosecutor in the recorder's court he has discharged his duties in a j creditable manner. Funeral of Kcv. John»on Besides Rev. Dr. Robt Hill of the Westminster Presbyterian church of Dallas, who officiated at the funeral of Rev. Arigu^ Johnson, on Monday, ι other ministers who assisted were Rev. W. P. Galbraith. Jenkins and Mark Henderson of Avalon, and a number of others, whose names could not be learned. Funeral of R. J. Poulter. The &mains of R. J. Poulter, the young man who died at Kirksvllle, Mo., Sunday, arrived in the city Wednesday on the southbound Ka ty. They were taken to the home of Mr. X. G. Gould on North Rogers street, whence the funeral took place in the afternoon. The burial exercises were conducted by the Masons of Waxahachie. A Business Change. A bill of sale was filed in the county clerk's office Wednesday by C. A. Velte conveying to Toney Rin ella the stock of confectioneries lo cated on the east side of the square. The stock of goods in question was recently purchased by Mr. Velte from W. J, Hamilton, who was nam- ■ ed as trustee in the chattel mortgage filed by Mr. Rinella. Report of a Robbery. R.
