lelen and the Dook
There was a young woman named
Helen Gould She was fabulously
rich notoriously unmarried tenderly
bighearted famously generous
nobly patriotic and thorougly Amer
ican She was called the woman
with 50000 admirers and the phrase
only included railroad men There
were at least 500000 more
There was also a little foreign two
foracent nobleman and his name
was the Duke de LooxetCoswarem
As anyone could guess from his name
he didnt have any money So he be
sought him of an easy and approved
way of remedying that difficulty he
would marry an American heiress
All he had to do was to visit the land
of the free and the homo of the brave
and the richest and fairest would fall
at his feet This was his view of the
matter And his attention was called
to Helen Gould
Hementioned the matter to his at
torneys and they were delighted
They saw a prospect of being able to
collect some of their fees And they
helped things along by circulating a
report as to the object of Dookde
Looxs qnesr It got into the papers
and as soon as the Dook saw it in cold
print he considered it good as settled
So he began referring to Miss Gould as
my intended bride and the future
dutchcss de etc
Note well the noble lord had not
yet brooched the subject to the lady
herself That was a little formality
he would attend to later And of
course it was nothing more than a
formality for how conld an American
heiress refuse him It was unthink
able so he gave it no thought And
after a while Miss Gould began to hear
the surprising news that she was be
trothed to an Edition do Luxe
Then she saw it in print and won
dered if it could be true Slio trowed
not So she took her little gold pen
in hand and she wrote tho following
notice which appeared in the papers
next to pure reading matter without
ad marks that evening
There is absolutely no truth in the
story that Miss Helen Gould is en
gaged to marry a foreigner She is
very much surprised at such a report
She does not even known the Duke de
LooxetCoswarem
Helen Gould
What a shock of grief andsurprise
this must have been to the Dook de
Limp LeatheretFull Calf
Hurrah for Helen She is now the
woman of 60000000 admirers Every
American will want to shake hands
with her She has only done what
any American girl with American
sense nroald4 have done but sha has
done it well And it is with a thrill of
genuine satisfaction that the public
viewathe spectacle of this impertinent
foreigrfpuppy going back liome with
a can tied to him Exchange
