The Servant In the House
A press notice says
Although The Servant in the
House will be presented for the first
time In Palestine at the New Temple
Theatre tonight its reputation has
preceded it Critics in both the east
and west have hailed it as a wonder
ful work of art and a fascinating
stage story One of Chicagos critics
calls it the most beautiful play of all
ages and the most conservative mag
azine in America declares it is the
best play written since the days of
Shakespeare Unlike most plays that
strongly appeal to intellectual audi
ences it is a simply told story a mod
ern comedy in the best sense of the
word with a well defined vein of
pathos It differs from the conven
tional plays of the day because it fol
lows the Greek form of construction
having but one scene and a continu
ous narrative The action takes place
during one morning and the time of
the play is the time of the story Be
tween the second and third and fourth
and fifth acts there is no intermis
sion The curtain falls on the climax
and rises immediately for the next
scene
The Climax
A press notice says
Producers of musical plays agree
that the situation music is the
most valuable for the success of the
production but the hardest to get
By situation music they mean the
melody suggested naturally by the
text born and nurtured in the story
Joseph Weber producer of The Cli
max which will bo seen at the New
Temple Theatre on Monday evening
February 7 claims that all examples
of the original form of the French
melodrama or song drama were per
fect in situation music He also
announces his new effort The Cli
max by Edward Locke with music
by Joseph Carl Breil to be an at
tempt to revive the ancient form of
the French melo drama He calls
The Climax a molodydrama
