Austin Texas Feb 19 According
to reports received by the tate treas
ury from the different depositories
over the state the amount now de
posited in these depositories at the
close of business yesterday amounted
to exactly 254214161 This is the
maximum amount that has thus far
riTftTjeen reached The tor c5rlHctDr off
Harris county deposited in the depos
itory at Houston jesterday 125000
of January tax collections As fast as
the collectors get the money it is de
posited in the state depositories
where it draws interest at an aver
age rate of 368 per cent
Dr Notts Letter Arouses a Storm of
Protest Sticks Stoutly to State
ment Offers to Put Up Money to
Back His Opinion
In a recent issue of this paper Dr
Nott whose fame is a matter of na
tional recognition stated that there
was no cure for baldness An opinion
which is evidently not shared by all
otherwise the existence of numerous
concerns that advertise to cure bald
ness to put hair ona billiard ball
etc would be Imperiled What Dr
Nott did state as reference to the is
sue containing his statements will
corroborate was that he had never
seen in all of the thousands of cases
which have passed under his notice
one instance where the disease of
baldness had been cured But he did
state as well that he cheerfully ad
mitted that there were remedies that
would restore gray hair to the color of
youth and that there were Hair Ton
ics which would encourage the growth
of hair cure dandruff and the ordi
nary diseases of the scalp he refer
red particularly to QBan Hair Re
storer and QBan Hair Tonic Dr
Nott stated that he will give to any
charitable institution named 1000 on
receipt of any authentic proof showing
that hair has ever been put on a bald
head where the roots were dead
Since his last statement the druggists

the house calmly shouldered his shot
gun and pulled the trigger emptying
