Greenwood Miss Mob Made Short
Work of Parson Wallace Negro
Who Wounded a Policeman

Greenwood Miss March 9 Parson
Wallace a negro preacher was taken
from thecounty jail here and lynched
shortly before noon today A delta
watch had been maintained in the
jail since early last night Wallace
engaged in a revolver fight with alx >
policeman and both were seriousl
wounded The negro was rushed to
jail and a mob at once surrounded the
prison but was kept quiet for some
time by the statement that Wallace
was dying Later when it became
known that the negro might recover
the mob rushed the jail and took the
prisoner from the officers and lynched
him The wounded officer will likely
recover
The negro was a physicial giant be
ing over six feet high and weighing
two hundred and fifty pounds He
fought with the policeman over a bill
he had entrusted the officer to collect
Wallace was in a dying condition
when taken from the jail but was
strung up to a telegraph pole in the
center of town nevertheless
