the Japanese coast since 1880 It is

Khartoum March 14 Colonel Theo
dore Roosevelt and son Kermit arrived
at Gordons Tree a scene made
memorable by the English general
this afternoon This is a few miles
from Khartoum proper and the
Roosevelt party will not enter the city
until later in the day Hundreds of
letters and telegrams were delivered
to the Roosevelts here The Roose
velts will stay at the home of Sirdar
Wingate until the Colonel goes to the
station to meet his wife which meet
ing will be private and without any
escort or formality Captain Clayton
has already gone to Gordons Tree to
meet the party and extend an official
welcome to the city and a police
bpdy guard has also been provided
Later Roosevelt made his triune
phant entry into Khartoum this after
noon There was no official display
but great crowds lined the wharf and
cheered as the steamer Dal gassed
Roosevelt was dressed in a khaki
hunting suit and wore a slouch hat
lie went at once to the palace where
a private dinner was held Roosevelt
was escorted between a line of armed
guards After dinner he took leave
of the negroes who had been com
panions in the hunt Each was reward
ed with a gift Arrangements have
been made for the famous hunter to
meet his wife and daughter

ing in the Sayler case was postponed
from this morning until this after
noon when it is undeistood the de
fense will ask for a postponement of
the trial The plea for a postpone
ment will be based on the fact that a
brotherinlaw of Mrs Sayler an im
portant witness is absent in Califor
nia Feeling is running very high
heie and a special number of depu
ties have been stationed about the
court room to prevent any kind of an
outbrust It is feared by the court
officials that violence may be at
tempted on the prisoners

have received a report of a second
snowslide which occurred near Wel
lington Washington early Sunday
morning The slide buried a big ro
tary snow plow and seriously injured
