Haakon and Queen Mayde were the
first to greet the Roosevelt party
when it arrived here at noon after a
fifteen hours ride from Copenhagen
The arrival of the party was greeted
with a greater demonstration than
was accorded King Edward of England
on his visit here The streets and
even the housetops were packed with
thousands of people who cheered
Roosevelt as he drove thiough the
streets forcing him to doff his hat
repeatedly

ed today that he might veto the rail
road bill The president said When
I return to Washington I will look
over the entire bill together with the
manges that have been made in it
L > am determined that we are either
going to have a satisfactory railroad
bill or none at all The three fea
tures of the bill which the president
consider the most Important are the
clauses bearing on tariff agreements
the merger clause and the rate super
vision clause Already the bill has
been so amended that these clauses
are hardly recognizable

before the farmers convention this
morning President Taft advocated the
establishment of a national board of
health and confined most of his talk
to the conservation of human life He
then worked around to land conserva
tion and asked the farmers to use
their influence to have passed in the
senate the withdrawal bill which legal
i7es the withdrawal of public lands
from entry already made and gives
thef executive the powoi to make fu
ture withdrawals At the close of his
address the president was driven
through the boulevards He wastaken
to the National League ball park
where he witnessed the first five in
nings of the Cardinals and Cincinnati
game and then to the American
League park for the closing Innings of
the Cleveland and Browns game Both
parks had record breaking crowds
