Whitman is preparing to raid a num
ber of stockades wjiere young girls
are kept for exhibition to prospective
purchasers Edward Carpel Levisons
attorney says such a crusade will
wipe out the unholy traffic Carpel
says Levison is the victim of an awful
system and that he wants to wipe it
out Levison told Carpel and Whit
man that women picked up the young
girls in moving picture shows and in
cheap theatres and after starting a
conversation withthem invited them
to their homes and when the girls ar
rived at such homes they were pre
vented from running away and were
sold to purchasers from all parts of
the country He claimed that some
girls had been shipped from New
York as far as San Francisco
