servatories in all paits of the United
States have completed preparations
for the observation of the total eclipse
of the moon which will take place to
night and will be visible in all parts
of North America excepting Alaska
The beginning of the eclipse will be
visible also in Africa and the south
western part of Europe The moon
will enter the shadow of the earth
about 1038 oclock Washington time
the total eclipse will begin eight min
utes after midnight and will end at
about fiftyone minutes after mid
night The moon will leave the shadow
of the earth at 214 tomorrow morn
ing The phenomenon will begin in
Chicago at 95G this evening at San
Francisco about 73G oclock

case of William Seyler chaiged with
the murder of Jane Adams whose
body was found February 13 on the
seashore at Atlantic City came up
for trial here today This is the case
which attracted more than ordinary
interest owing to the fact that the ef
forts of the police to extort a confes
sion fiom the defendant led to a
discussion of the Third Degree meth
ods in the United States senate and
a demand for an investigation of the
subject

real business of the annual encamp
ment of the G A R of Illinois does
not begin until tomorrow the trains
and interurban cars brought in the
vanguard of veterans and other visit
ors today and the large number of
early arrivals points to a large at
tendance The business section is
decorated with flags and other patri
otic emblems and the parade will
move through garlands of red white
and blue hung from buildings poles
and wires The contests for officers
of the G A R the Womens Relief
Corps and the other bodies whose an
nual meetings will be held are already
attracting much attention among the
delegates
