cate more than selfadvancement are
slow about showing their love As a
the prohibitionists are

Texas but is the direct result of per
sistent boosting on the part of those
people In South Texas many big con
cerns have organized into coloniza
tion companies and are sending litera
ture into the north and other sections
inviting people to come and the re
sults are manifest There is no sec
tion of Southern Texas that can offer
better inducements to homeseekers
than can East Texas and yet the de
mand for East Texas lands is not
what it should be When East Texas
people get together and inaugurate
an advertising campaign telling of
the wonderful things possible here we
may expect to see a great movement
this way The East Texas Industrial
Congress organized in Nacogdoches
recently is the proper channel to u >
for this work And the time to gef
busy is right now while people are
coming to Texas
THE CASE OF MR BALLINGER
President Tafts secretary of the in
terior has been under fire almost from
the beginning of his administration of
that department of the government
service and there is something almost
pathetic in the attitude of this cabinet
officer something almost heroic in
the presidents faith in and loyalty to
him under great stress
No one seriously believes that Pres
ident Taft is consciously harboring in
his cabinet a man unworthy to be
there in defiance of public sentiment
It is inconceivable that even exag
gerated stubborness and recklessness
of results would cause him to continue
in office a man in whom he had lost
confidence

left the cabinet gracefulJ e
