been hauled over a prescribed area
claimed 44000 acres of rich land
under the Swamp and Overflow act
following his attesting to the fact that
he had made the trip by boat

the birthday anniversary Neverthe
less many of the cardinals Vatican of
ficials and other churchmen called
upon the Pontiff and offered their con
gratulations The two sisters of his
Holiness passed the greater part of
the day with him
Pius X has now occupied the chair
of St Peter for nearly seven years
having been elected to succeed the
late Pope Leo XIII on August 4 1903
In origin Pius X is in many respects
the opposite of his predecessor who
was of aristocratic birth and a deep

Railroad Trip Covering Fifteen
Hundred Miles

dent Tafr accompanied by his mili
tary aide secretary stenographer and
four secret service officers left the
capital today to fulfill several out of
town engage ments he entered into
several months ago His trip will oc
cupy three days during which time
he will travel approximately fifteen
hundred miles His first stopping
point is Bryn Mawr Pa where he is
to attend the commencement exercises
this afternoon at Bryn Mawr College
where Miss Helen Taft is a student
From Bryn Mawr the president will
proceed to Ada Ohio to attend an
otlfer college commencement that of
the Northern Ohio University To
morrow evening will find Mr Taft in
Detroit to deliver an evening address
