SUCCEEDED IN GETTING INTO
PRESIDENT TAFTS PRIVATE

Stricklin a miner who gives his home
as Cumberland lid gained entrance
to the executive offices at the White
House today and almost succeeded in
passing the doorkeeper guarding the
presidents private office The man
was well dressed and walked briskly
into the executive office and said lie
had an appointment with the presi
dent He succeeded in avoiding sus
picion until at the very threshhold of
the presidents office Here uie dooxj
keeper noticed a slight expression pf
excitement about the mans eyes and
just as Stricklin was entering the
door the doorkeeper changed his mind
and detained him He called for de
tectives and Sergeant Dalrymple ques
tioned the man and decided that he
was not right mentally He was
searched and a revolver and one hun
dred dollars in cash were found on his
person Stricklin says he is sixty
four years of age and insists that
Taft has been advertising in all of
the papers for him He went to the
White House he said in answer lo
these ads An investigation has been
started to ascertain if he is not the
same man who atempted to reach
Roosevelt two years ago under similar
circumstances

acceptance of a reward for the per
formance of an act such as casting a
vote is bribery except where there has
been a previous corrupt understand
ing Attorney Forrest made an argu
ment today against the admission of
the testimony of Represetnatives Link
and Beckemeyer in the trial of Lee
ONeil Browne Both of these repre
sentatives the state announced would
testify to having been paid for their
votes far Lorimer If the objection
urged by Forrest is sustained by the
court it means that Representative
Whites story must stand alone as the
sole reliance of the state

right to apply for an injunction to

day overruled Governor Haskells de
murrer The judge also held that the
governor and all state officials are
amenable to the state courts Attor

ask the supreme court for a writ to
prevent the enforcement of the in

ability ask for an Injunction tomorrow
and if it Is granted the fight will like
