Whereas there has been a practice
In past campaigns for certain persons
to approach candidates and the
friends of candidates for money for
forking in elections and
Whereas such a practice is not sub
versive of good government and good
morals and a flagrant violation of law
therefore be it
Resolved That we the candidate1

sembled hereby placeourselves on
record as condemning such a practice
and hereby severally pledge that we
will furnish to the proper officer all
Information that we may acquire dur
ing this campaign that mayiead to
the arrest and conviction of any can

Torrey expressly states that he makes
nc charge for his personal services
but is pleased to receive whatever the
people give him as a fieewill offer
ing He does not even require that
his assistants be paid any amount
whatsoever He guarantees them stip
ulated sums and leaves it to the peo
ple interested as to whether they will
reimburse him However the people
are always glad to show their appre
ciation of the services of Dr Torrey
snd his colaborers by both paying the
salaries of his helpers and present
ing the evangelist with a generous
jiuise The above statement is made
in View of the fact that some of our
people are laboring under a misappre
hension regarding the facts Dr Tor
icy projects his campaigns upon a
high plane and it would be unfor
tunate for any one to entertain erro
neous views of his methods of work
This statement holds good whether w e
are to have Dr Torrey with us in Oc
tober or not
