FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 9 1910
The minute that a question of hon
esty as that against dishonesty is in
volved then we must all act together
as Americans without the slightest
regard to party affiliations Honesty
is not a party matter and the first
man to attack a scoundrel of any par
ty should be the honest man of that
party
LET IT SOAK IN
Here is a thought uttered by
Charles Kingsley that should be per
mitted to soak in for there is scarce
ly anything better in English litera
ture
Thank God every morning when
you get up that you have something
to do that day which must be done
whether you like it or not Being
forced to work and forced to do your
best will breed in you temperance and
selfcontrol diligence and strength of
will cheerfulness and content and a
hundred virtues which the idle never
know
About half of the gentlemen elect

attended a meeting Gentlemen that
is not the most approved way to build
a city Get busy
Tyler has provided a trash wagon
which is sent all Over the city to take
away the accumualtions and the
driver has been provided with a bell
to notify the people that the trash
man has came It is not a bad idea
The Board of Trade has decided to
go after an exhibit to the State Fairs
and after a modern hotel that will
take care of the visitors to the city
Other good works will be undertaken

The vindication Ballinger will like

value to him and a great deal less to
his party and that is what is worry
ing some of the highbrows in the re
publican party Plain honesty should
come out and give him a clean bill
of health or if he is guilty as charged
he should be condemned and politics
should cut no ice in the matter
Just ten days more and the city
schools will open for the fall and win
ter term The forthcoming session
gives promise of being a most suc
cessful one The teachers have been
carefully and well selected and a very
competent corps of instructors from
superintendent down will be in
charge Palestine should feel a pride
in its schools and does The one
thing needful to make the schools bet
ter is a little more money and this in
time will be forthcoming A full nine
months term will be conducted the
first time in some few years This
is made possible through the city com
missioners agreeing to make neces

No sooner had the governor sent
his greetings tothe good people of

treasured in the hearts of all laboring
men in Texas as much as he is treas

home town
Mr Wagners voice broke complete

Governor Campbell replied thanking
him for the deep sincerity as mani

his words

good will and friendship on the part
of the membership of organized labor

the range of possibility This token
of their esteem and continued confi

be treasured among my most sacred
memories
Governor Campbell expressed regret
that he was unable to be with the
people of Palestine Labor Day for
they always celebrate that great oc

and with that becoming homage due

around him that one of the greatest
comforts he enjoys is the fact that
he enjoys the confidence of the men
