This statement was made by John
Alden Dix when formally notified of
his nomination by the democracy of
New York as its candidate for the
governorship
He attacked Roosevelt whom he
claims forced the nomination of Stim
son by the Saratoga convention Dis
cussing the New Nationalism Dix
characterized Roosevelt as an apos
tle of discord and dissension

ister Dies Suddenly

a visit to Austin yesterday and short
ly after the midnight hour this morn
ing as he entered his home in Hutto
following a walk from the railway
station Rev C Charnquist the well
known author editor and minister of
the Swedish Methodist church of
Texas droped dead of heart failure
Rev Charnquist was a minister and
a writer of state prominence the
author of several religious books and
was founder of the Texas Bladet a
Swedish paper of large circulation
He was 71 years of age and is sur
vived by nine children four boys and
five girls

States gunboat Princeton reached
Amalpa today and demanded the sur
render of Commandant St Valla
deres who inaugurated the reign of
terror against the American and
British subjects located there threat
ening them with imprisonment and
confiscating their property
The commandant promptly refused
to surrender and sent word to the
commander of the Princeton that he
was not subservient to Tafts Ameri
can pigs He has mounted guns on
the custom house and threatens to
fire on the marines if they attempt
to land
The marines are making active
preparations to take forcible posses

With the forest fires between Inter
national Falls and Beaudette under
control the citizens and the military
companies under command of Gen
eral Wood of the Minnesota National
Guard today turned their attention to
distributing supplies and attending to
the suffering of the injured among
the thousands o refugees of the fire
zone
The danger however has not en
tirely passed and General Wood to
day called for additional troops to
prevent a fresh outbreak of the fires
and also to protect the refugees from
