THEY ARE HEADED FOR EAST
TEXAS
A gentleman just back from the
western section of Texas tells the
same tale that hundreds of others are
telling and that is that those who
intothat country investing Xheir
all in highpriced lands and who
have been run out bankrupted and
Tulned through the drouth and conse
quent crop failures are headed for
this part of the state He says many
of these people are penniless and
< wlth large families on their hands
Everything has been sacrificed and
they are headed for this part of the
state where crops are grown and
where the people have plenty It is
distressing he says to fjnd these
people who put the ready money they
had into the 40 and 50 an acr
land pulling up and leaving most of
them trying to make it to East Texas
via private conveyances not having
the money with which to buy rail
road fare He says there is much
suffering privation and starvation
But they are determined to get out
and back to Gods country where the
big yam potatoes grow where there
are plenty of corn and peas home

necessary for comfortable living
This gentleman says this section
is on the threshold of a boom for
the cheap lands appeal to these dis
tressed people the hills and dales
gurgling streams and sparkling
waters of perennial springs are beck
oning to them And he is one of the
number running from the west He
said he is a native of Houston coun
ty and he is going back back to
the hills to the sandyland to the
land of possums and taters to the
land where people live He says this
looks like paradise to him since
three years in the west where the
plains nothing but plains as far vas
the eye can see without a break
without an intervening hill or stream
or tree or anything to break the
monotony gets on ones nerves
where water is the most priceless pos
session and where water is so
scarce
Palestine is going to send a car
load of young corn growers to Dallas
Monday headed by Secretary Sterne
of the Board of Trade The boy corn
growers will be there from all over
Texas and they will have a good
time as Dallas has prepared to glv
it to them
Fine expresses the condition of
the weather It could not be better
Puts new life into every one and
makes business good Merchants re
port the demand for warmer clothing
is quite brisk and that the people
have the money with which to buy it
Our good neighbor Navarro coun
ty in its first exhibit at the Dallas
Fair took second place when the
awards were handed around And An
derson county could have had first
place if she had only gone after it
Fact
The pastors of the city are using a
half page ad in the Herald in telling
of the work they are endeavoring to
accomplish And the advertising is
bringing results Go to church to
morrow
The Herald is as happy as a mud
turtle in the sunshine this blessed
Saturday night A full weeks busi
ness has been roundedN and all
is well Go to church tomorrow
If Palestine had a hotel of the right
proportion big and inviting it would
have a hundred traveling men Sun
daying here who could go to church
with us tomorrow
A French author says American
women make poor wives Yes they
are soon poor after some of these
deadbroke French counts marry
them
Herald columns are brim full of
spicy ads telling the store news of
Palestines progressive stores Read
them all and go to church tomorrow
Considering what most people are
willing to do for money is it not
queer there are not more million
aires
Water is said to be very scarce at
Dallas But there is an abundance
of beer
Just try it once It wont hurt you
Go to church tomorrow
Heed the pastors appeal and go to
church tomorrow
They cannot all come back but
Wellman did

Acts 21424
But Peter standing up with the
eleven lifted up his voice and said
unto them Ye men of Judea and all
ye that dwell at Jerusalem be this
known unto you and harken to my
words
For these are not drunken as ye
suppose seeing it is but the third
hour of the day
But this is that which was spoken
by the prophet Joel
And it shall come to pass in the
last days saith God I will pour out
of my Spirit upon all flesh and your
sons and your daughters shall proph
esy and your young men shall see
visions and your old men shall j
dream dreams
And on my servants and on my
handmaidens I will pour out in those
days of my Spirit and they shall
prophesy
And I will shew wonders in heaven
above and signs in the earth be
neath blood and fire and vapour of
smoke
that great and notable day of the
Lord come
And it shall come to pass that
whosoever shall call on the name of
the Lord shall be saved v
Ye men ofIsrael hear these words
Jesus of Nazareth a man approved of
God among you by miracles and won
ders and signs which God did by him
in the midst of you as ye yourselves
also know
Him being delivered by the deter
minate counsel and foreknowledge of
God ye have taken and by wicked
hands have crucified and slain
Whom God hath raised up having
loosed the pains of death because it
was not possible that he should be
holden of it

Children Under 12 Years 5 Cents
Tile auditorium of the Presbyterian
church was comfortably filled last
night with mostly church people to
enjoy the revival services being con
ducted by the local pastors of the
piotestant churches After a spirited
song service conducted by Rev W
Frazier Smith of the Grace Methodist
church Rev Kilgore of the Centenary
Methodist church preached a strong
sermon regarding the demand of
some people for a physical sign of
the presence of God and the coming
judgment when witnesses shall stand
igainst the men and women who die
in sin The sermon was full of good
thoughts and practical The speaker
said apparently most people were in
different in a large measure to the
real substantial things of life and
only gave heed and concern to the
superficial things The sermon made
a good impression
Tomorrow the several pastors will
occupy their own pulpits and all
will discuss the reasons for and
against church attendance This is
an important theme and possibly all
mjen have opinions about it Just as
an example last night there were
probably three hundred members of
the protestant churches of the city at
the meeting while the rest of the
more than three thousand members
were at home The pastors have
woiked hard for three weeks to start
a revival in the churches that the
church might he instrumental in sav
ing others It is not a good showing
Go out tomorrow and hear the sub
ject discussed
