Washington D C Dec 31 The census bureau announced popu
lations of Texas towns today as follows
Palestine 10432 Sherman 12412 Waxahachie 6205 Corpus
Christi 8222 Beaumont 20640 Brownwood 6967 Denison 13632
Gainesville 7624 Paris 11269 Port Arthur 7663 Terrell 7050
Tyler 10400
The 1900 census gave Palestine S297 and this shows a gain of
2135 for Palestine in the past ten years The census figures given
out for the county a few daj s ago showed the entire county had
gained approximately 1600 in the past ten years This would in
dicate that Palestine gained more than the entire county in that
period therefore the county must have lost in population outside of
Palestine

Work is now under way on the new
federal building at the corner of Oak
and Nbrth Sycamore streets
The city has purchased two park
sites and these will be put in shape
during the coming year

service by the fire department early
in the new year This includes an
auto fire engine and a chemical truck
The sewer system has doubled its
mains now covering almost the en
tiro city
Work started and far advanced on
the 25000 church home of the Cen
tenary Methodist congregation at the
corner of Mngnolia and Reagan

and lots terraced for several blocks

walks have been laid

Deputy Sheriff Mclnnis Came In
From Grapeland Last Night
With Negro Prisoner
Deputy Sheriff B Mclnnis came
home from Grapeland last night
Scores of residences have been erect where during the day he placed

of being responsible for the killing of
another negro Elmo Johnson in the
Wells Creek community earlier in
the week Deputy Mclnnis went
south while Sheriff Boyd went toward
Dallas in the hope of picking up their

The negro arrested gives his name
as Ernest Thomas and it is under
stood he acknowledges to the officers
that ho cut Johnson

During the year which will come to
a close at midnight tonight 428 mar
riage licenses were issued in Anderson
county Of instruments placed of
record effecting land titles such as
deeds of trust mechanics liens re
leases deeds powers of attorneys and
affidavits 2352 was the total with
3578 mortgages The record of births
for the year shows a total of 309
with 56 deaths although the record
as to deaths is admittedly incomplete
There is a state law requiring physi
cians to file this information with the
county clerk but for some reason it
has not bgen lived up to
The number of criminal cases tried
in the county court during the year
1910 is given at 105 with the follow
ing result 57 convictions 13 acquit
tals 34 dismissals 23 cases pending
Only one case was appealed The ag
gregate amount of fines imposed was
1497
Many substantial improvements
have been made in Palestine during
the year now drawing to a close

yeggmen robbed the Citizens State
Bank of Waterville at Waterville to
day and escaped with six thousand
dollars in cash The men escapfed in
an automobile Many citizens were
awakened by the explosion but made
no attempt to prevent the robbers
escape

other Stir Is Occasioned In
the Philippines

obtained today shows that Japanese
spies are now engaged in making a
map of the entire achipelago The
authorities are aware of this menac
ing Japanese authority but are power
less to interfere owing to the lack of
law for the punishment of the spies
The maps are extraordinary and are
intended for the particular benefit of
Japan should that government seek
to forcibly acquire possession of the
islands

Moisaht the famous American aviator
of international reputation for his dar
ing flights was killed when his aero
plane capsized and fell eight hundred
feet today near Harahan La ten
miles from this city
Moisant was flying at the time of
the accident for the Michelin prize of
4000 offered in France for the
longest flight in a circle He first At
tracted attention by his flight across
the English Channel It will prob
ably never be known how the accident
of today occurred

of slate in the Tick Fork mine of the
Red Jacket Coal contpany The acci

a loaded mine car which struck and

The pay boss of the International
and Great Northern railroad gave out
New Year greetings today In the
shape of pay checks for the past
months service The office men
finished their work for the year at
noon and will have holiday until
Tuesday morning
Small Freight Wreck
A freight wreck on the south end
near Dodge last night put a caboose
and a number of cars in the ditch
So far as reported no one was injured
