ACCIDENTS NARROWY AVERTED Little Colored Girl Rescued —Close This afternoon at 1:30 o'clock Mounted Officer McDevitt rescued a little colored child from a horrible fate, grabbing her from in front of a train of flat cars just as the wheels were about to crush out her life. It was just as the officer was pass ing the crossing of the Southern Pa cific railroad track at Crockett street that he saw the train about to run over the child, and it was only by a miracle that the child was saved. The name of the little tot was not learned as it ran away to its home after the officer had dragged it from in front ot the wheels. Dr.. J. S. Cameron, who was in a uuggy with a friend, E. T. Smith, also had a narrow escape from being crushed by the cars at this place a few minutes later, the engine striking the horse on the nose and nearly knocking the animal down.
