He secured * de cision from District Judge Clancy ro etraining the Boston Md Montana company from paying dividends to the amalgamated, on the ground that ft Is contrary to the laws of Montana for one corporation to own stock In an other corporation. Furthermore, on application, he secured a decision from Judge Clancy in which the latter raid he might at any time appoint a receiver for the Boston and Montana. By these decisions the amalgamated was badly hampered. Md. the “fair trial” bill being nullified by the cu preine court, it could not secure the transfer of the matter to another court. After vainly bringing preaenre to bear upon the governor to call a spe cial session of the legislature, the amalgamated shut down Its mines, throwing 30 000 men out of work. Gen eral Manager Scallo* announcing that under the laws of Montana the com pany could not secure and that it would be useless to operate the mines until assurance of fair treatment wm given. He also said that the mines should be reopened whenever the governor should issue a call for a •ueclal session of the legislature to pass remedial legialation. It left here last Tuesday in command of Cap tain Young of New York, for Port Ar thur, Texas. Mr. Gates and his party, consisting of his wife, his son Charles G. Gates and his wife, Mrs. C. H. Gur ney of New York, Md two maids, ar rived with the yacht from Chicago on November 19. They left for Port Ar thur yesterday ,ln Mr. Gates private car intending to' Join the vessel there.
