class near Mr. Clay Faulkner's
Woolen Mills, taught by Rev. Jas.
Munroe, are learning very rapidly
and express a determination to com
plete the course 'in a short while.
Mr. Munro is well up in the study
and very thorough inhisinstructions.
There are lots of young men, boys,
and even young ladies in McMinn
ville, who, by putting in their idle
time under the instruction of Mr.
Munro, could soon master the beau
tiful, as well as profitable art, and
thereby be enabled to command
positions paying from $50 to $75 per
month, in the cities the demand
for good stenographers and type
writers is far ahead of the supply
and our young people have the op
portumty right here at home to
thoroughly fit themselves at about
one-third the cost of city instruction,
to fill these waiting positions. The
use of short hand has, within the las
lew years, reached remarkable pro
portions. Charles Reid, in his work
on The Coining Man, says: 4,I ad
vise parents to have all their boys
and girls taught short hand and type
writing. A shorthand writer who
can typewrite his notes would be
safer from poverty than a great Greek
scholar." The competent shorthand
writer can always obtain employ
ment and command a good salery.
