It seems a safe bet from the reports from Albuquerque that the man who misses this year's Territorial Fair is going to miss the show of his life. Mrs. Udo S. Hammel and two children of Clayton arrived in the city Wednesday morning for a short visit with her sister. Miss Ivy Sperling. Mrs. Driscoll went out to Water canon on a business visit the first of the week. She is ar ranging to have her late hus band's mine in the Magdalenas patented. After entertaining the crowds that prosperous New Mexico is going to send to this Territorial Fair, Albuquerque will know how it feels to entertain the Ir rigation congress. Those twelve conventions, to le held during the Territorial Fair at Albuquerque, will bring a crowd to town, even without the ordinary visitors, who merely come for a good time. Sa tn'l Locke came down from Magdalena the first of the week for a stay of two or three weeks in Socorro. Mr. Locke's health is not of the very best and he al ways finds a short stay in Socor ro beneficial. Mr. and Mrs. Joe I'rown and infant child of Kelly arrived in Socorro Tuesday morning on their way to Canada for a month's visit with Mr. Brown's mother, whom he had not seen for many years. The man who never has known how it feels to be up in the air can try it by riding in the cap tive balloon, at Albuquerque, during the fair. It will be worth while to go and find out how Walter Wellman felt. More than one hundred and fifty horses are already entered for the race meeting in the ler ritorial Fair at Albuquerque More horses than are entered during any season at any of the big race attractions on the coast. This year's Territorial Fair, at Albuquerque, is a winner. The surest indication is the numerous number of street Fifty Years (ha Slir.isrd Da mm CREAM mm A Cream of Tartar Powder Usdo from Grapes no alum barkers who have applied for space to ply their trade. When the barkers come, the crowd is coming. Mrs. II. O. Martin returned to Socorro Sunday. from Silver City, where he had spent several days in attendance upon the regular term of the district court for Grant county in his capacity as district clerk. There is good evidence that Martin did some effective boosting for the Socorro county fair while he was in Sil ver City. Homer Perkins, son of Kev. and Mrs. II. M. Perkins, former ly of Socorro but now of Swains boro, Ga., arrived in the city Wednesday morning on his way to assume the duties of a busi ness position which he had ac cepted in Magdalena. Near Liverpool, Ohio, was a church depending in i part on out-side help for support, while to all appearance the peo ple were well able to support themselves. So someone visited the assessor's office and found the people of that church was as sessed for their millions, this church was confronted with this fact and shamed into self-support. A church can pauperise itself by the cry of hard times and poverty when most of the people seem to be living in coin fort and with homes of luxurious furnishing. PAWNEE BILL'S SHOW Drew a Oood Crowd in Socorro and Gave Oood Satisfaction. Pawnee Kill's show was in So corro Tuesday. It drew a good crowd of spectators, all of whom went away fairly well satisfied. Some features of the entertain ment were by no means excel lent, but others, such as the horseback riding, the bronco busting, the lynching bee, and the Mountain Meadow massacre assessed merit enough to be thoroughly entertaining. The large number of people connect ed with the show seemed to be a pretty decent lot," and there was no evidence of the usual accom panimentof pickpockets and oth er light fingered experts. If Pawnee Dill's show ever comes to Socorro again it will probably draw an even larger crowd thin its first. 8; Studebaker wagons!
