The American detail had not yet
been made. Now that the order to
withdraw has been received from
Washinton, it is possible that the
plans for t!ie expedition will have
to be modified. General Chaffee,
however, is proceeding on the op
posite assumption, and has ordered
assumption, and has ordered the
Fifth Marine Battalion to prepare
to go.
Ptkin, Sept. 25, via Taku, Sept.

conference of Generals today the
Russian commander, General Lino

tion. He will leave on Thursday,

transmitting the order to withdraw
contained a statement thet all the
Powers were adopting the same
policy. The other generals replied
that they hud received no orders of

Quanab Parker Is 111.
Denison, Tex., Earl Roberts of
the Comanche reservation reports
that Quanah Parker, the famous
Comanche cheif, who figures so
largely in Texas history, is ser
iously ill near Fort Sill.
Howard's Motion Overruled.
Frankfort, Ky., Sept. 29.
The motion for a now trial for
Jim Howard, convicted of the
murder of Governor Goebel, was
argued today before Judge Can
trill, who overruled the motion.

Phoenix. Ariz., Oct. 1. The po
litical campaign in thisterritoy will
formally open this week. The two
rival democratic candidates for dele
gates to congress, Mark Smith and
J. V. Wilson, will fight it out, hold
ing separate meetings. Statehood
has been made the rallying cry by
both republicans and democrats.

Wilksbarre, Pa., Oct. 1. The
strike situation in the Wyoming
valley remains unchaged this morn
ing. All of the collieries, with the
exception of cne at Monanaque,
employing 400 men, are tied up as
uial. It is apparent from the de
clarations of the strikers and their
leaders that no action will be taken
on the mine owners to start their
collieries by an offer ot a 10 per
cent increase in wages until word
comes from President Mitchell.

Georgetown, Ky., Oct. 2. when
Henry Youtsey's case is called to
morrow it is certain the common
wealth will insist on a trial. Yout
sey's attorneys are uncertain tonight
whether or not i they will move to
continue until February, as some of
the witnesses may be unavoidably
absent. There will be no delay,
however, on the score of Youtsey's
health, as his condition is much improved.
