How to Judge a Mule and
How to Hang It.
If you know the pedigree of a
mule the aire and mother, and
"its sisters,, aunts and cousins,
who you reckon by the dozens"
you could scarcely miss your judg
xnent on a mule eren though you
were blindfolded.
I have in my mind's eye, Tobe,
a mule given me by my father,
which commanded $200 .00 in cash.
He stood full 17 bands in his sock
feet. A body of fine proportions,
keen loving eyes, and glossy black

the mule s neck, and if it stops
there you are all right. But njoet
frequently it slips over the body
and the mule runs out of it Some
times it tightens on the foot Keep
on till you get it on the neck, then
"set to it" with all the help at
your command, till you choke him
down. Then three or four boys
jump astride the mule and put a
halter with a long rope attached
to it, over its head, still keeping
the lariat about his neck at ten
sion. When you get off, unless
you aro thoroughly familiar with
the "old master." you had better
have a "Parliamentary Drill," be
fore tampering with the business
sections of that mule.
And whether the lights and
shadows fall evenly or unevenly,
A mule in a mule for a' that and a' thai,
A mule is a mule (or a' mat.

Several years ago,the GrcatFather

Of white men and niggers the
government recks not a cuss. It

the Dawes commission woald loses

But if tac f oversment pays for
all this fuss abeut protecting the
Indian, why is he not protected
ouce or twice a week, instead of two
times per anaum? Does it hurt an
Indian worse to get druuk during
court? And if the whiskey was bad
whiskey with which Marshal Ham

rest good whiskey? And will the
whiskey which will come to today
and tomorrow, and not be spilled,
be good whisky?
Of course its none of our funeral

glorious country and its wards, the
aborigines. But it makes you
smile to see the sudden and violent
determination cracks whiskey Jags

conventional corkscrew the rest of
