the manly thing in sending it.
Murphy, the Tammany chieftain,
declares that his organization will
support Parker to a man and the
Empire slate will east its electoral
vote for the democratic nominee.
Out of all the wranglings of the
St. Louis convention, democracy

That was work enough for one con
vention even if it had accomplished
nothing more.
It was a great moment for Wil
!i am J. Bryam when he swayed the
Chicago convention by his magne
tic oiatory and won the nomination
lor the presidency. It was a great
moment when he was chosen un
animously as the standard bearer ol
his parly at Kansas Lit v. jlut it
was a greater moment for Mr.
Bryan, when, defeated in his pur
I tor.es and delhioncd from leader
ship, he yielded his personal w ishes
to the united voice of his parly and
came out for unity and harmony.
The Kxrki-.ss was with Mr. Bryan
in both of his campaigns but has
been out of sympathy with him in
his ttt'orls during the past year.
However, in his conduct at the St.
fvouis convention, Bryan showed
himself a broader-and a greater
man than his opponents have
credited him with being. Great in
victory, he was greater still in defeat

Indian territory" was the decree
of the St. Louis convention, whlie
the republicans were silent upon
the question. The jtosi lion of the
two parties is now clear upon this
great question. "It is evident that
tlie democratic party alone will
give the territories what , they
demand.
The tariff and trust planks of
the democratic platform could not
be improved upon. In striking
contrast with the weak, meaning
ess generalities in the republican
platform, they are clear, specific
and positive. The tariff is to be
revised and the trust question
handled not by thejfrieiids of the
protected and favored classes but
by the friends of the people.
