Prof. Carret Scents the Approach of
Two Big Storms.
Washington, Sept. 24 Two
great st inns are moving toward the
east from opposite directions. Prof.
Garret of the weather bureau Said
today that when they meet there
will be a general fall of rain in "the
middle and eastern states. One of
the disturbances is another West
Indian hurricane which was report
ed to the weather bureau this morn
ing to be off the west and of the
island of Cuba. The other is a
raiu storm now prevailing in the
northwest. The hurricane is mov
ing northward and the northwest
storm is moving southward, so
that in the natural order of things
they are expected to meet and con
siderable damage is likely to result.
The West Indian hurricane is ex
pected to reach the gulf coast to
morrow or Wednesday.

Fight Between Two Big Parties Will
Be Vigorous One

constitutional convention campaign
is warming up and iu the course of
a few weeks will be on in full blast
Conventions for the purpose of
naming candidates for delegates are
being held today in the Enid and
Purcell districts, the former by Re
publicans ant' the latter by Demo
crats, the Democrats of the Twen
tieth district will convene at Mar.
ana tomorrow. Both the Democrats
and Socialist of the nineteenth dis
trict will meet at liipley on Friday,
and the Democrats of the Forty
se'enth district will hold their con
vention on Saturday. The Republi
cans of this city and of this district
will convene on October 12. Th se
will be about the last of the impor
tant conventions. Candidates hare
already been named in many dis
tricts, a few of which were selected
at non-partison mass meetings.
THE SOUTH'S IMPERIAL STAPLE.
Over $2,000,000,000 is invested
in cotton mills in Europe and
America dependent upon the south
for their raw material. It is esti.
mated that 10,000,000 people in
Great Britain alone live on the cot
ton industry of that couutry. The
balance of trade in favor of the
United States depends upon our
cotton exports, which dow annual
ly reach 430.000,000, or more than
the world's gold production. Of
this royal crop, imperial in magni
tude and in domination of the
world's fmancial and manufactur
ing interest, the south holds a
world-monoply. Its ability to in
crease cotton production, are limit
ed only by its labor supply. Econo
mic forces will of necessity bring
about a great increase in popula
tion and thus prepare the way for
a vast expansion in manufacturing
and in pioduction as the price and
demand may justify. The south
produces 80 percent, of the.cottan
for the 119,000,000 sp'ndles in the
world, but has less than 10,000,000
spindles itself. Think of the limit
less possibilities for expansion in
this industry alone when you are
studying the future of the South.
