As we -srmised and predicted the DI)clocratic couvc!ltion lately held in New Orleans, have nominated a tfull straight out Democratic Stte ticket headed by Col. JnoraD. MeEnery of, Oanchita for Goverfr. This state nomination is one of the preludes of the great National one to be held in Baltimore on the 9th of next mouth which will result in a similar blind and suicidal policy ; for in this matterI reversing the proverb, it will be, ", as the young cock crows so crows the . Our nuighbor tLe Louisiana Democrat has an article copied from the Chicago Times with the caption of (Greely's Failnre" in which it is en(leavored to be proved, that he can not unite the opposition to Grant, and this article is a type of a number of otbers in the ultra and uncompromis ing Democratic papers throughout the Union. It would seem taking into conside ration the flag which yet ities at th4 mast bead of the Gazette, that it was a matter of very little concern to us, what course the Democratic party takes, or rather that we would rejoice at the lair prospect which presents it self ot their again imnolating them selves, their hopes and aspirations, on tht altar of principle as they call it. or as it is designated by outsiders, of' presumption, but the wagon is not out of the woods yet, and we do not know exactly when it will carry us. We are taking now a mere jphylo solhical and unprejudiced view of the s:tuating putting ourselves for thee present and for arguments sake in the position of tle wife and the husband I in the bear fight. The action of the! Convention in New Orleans which we I have been discussing was decided by a mere meagre majority, and so most likely it will be with the Baltimore assembly; and it' so, it is on'the cards that the minurity which is so respecta ble a one, may revolt and fraternise with another respectable minority and so make another majority and a win ning one at that. KRapides Colleglale Inst Itute. We omited last week the usual cus tom of calling attention to a new ad vertisement, in the ease of the card of Messrs Bringhurst & ilunterannounc ing their intention of opetnig an ma( ctdemy Iutitution for the education of boys or young men and prepariung them to enter college either here or elsewhere. This omission was entire ly accidental anid owing to our atten tion not having been calitl to their adIvertisement. Good wine however -ays the proverb, needs no bracd and these young gentlemep brought up, and so well and so fitvorably kno\\ u in this community need no reconnuen ldation from us to insure them success in the honorable though arduous occu pation they intend to embrace or rath or we should sai that o:le of them in tends, as the other unless we are mis taken has already had some experi ence and gained a good deal of credit in the profoession. Both of them we have no doubt h;ave all the requisite queldities for iunstru: tors in all they profess to instruct in. Both are graduates of Collegiate In stitutions of a high order, mand Mr. Bringhurst having spent some time at college in Germany, the head ceutre as might be said of learning, sci nee and literature of all kinds and being INsides a young gentleman of no ordi oury natural ability must be peculiar jy adlapted to the profession. Added to these rtecommendations as to the prinrcilals of the prolumed insti tute, the location selected is another great inducement to parents and guart dians, her, as wella as awbroad. Far :noughi f-omn tile riv-er and town to be p&rlfctly healthy and satfe fomn any tral-eirg elpidemic, it is near enough to be convenient both to residents here and visitors by steamlboat or oth erwise, and in short the prospectus whith tile prl'incipals have issued, sets forth so many inducements and ad \uuant--e, that we can not doubt it will bhave the desired effect.
